Students must have completed up to and including grade 8 French Immersion to be enrolled in the French Immersion Program at NHS.
Graduation Requirements for French Immersion
30 credits for OSSD of which 10 must be French Immersion. These include:
- 4 French Immersion French (1 credit per grade)
- Grade 9 Geography
- Grade 10 History
- Grade 10 Civics and Careers
- At least three other courses taught in the French language (excluding third languages since the language of instruction should be the third language)
Cooperative Education can qualify as one French Immersion credit if students are working with a French speaking community partner.
The following courses are required in French Immersion:
- Grade 9, 10, 11 & 12 French (FIF1DF, FIF2DF, FIF3UF or FIF3OF, FIF4UF or FIF4OF)
- Grade 9 Canadian Geography (CGW1WF)
- Grade 10 Canadian History (CHC2DF)
- Grade 10 Civics and Careers (CHV2OF and GLC2OF)
In addition, students must complete at least three other courses taught in the French language:
- Grade 11
- Introduction to Anthropology, Psychology, and Sociology (HSP3UF or HSP3CF)
- Travel and Tourism: A Geographic Perspective (CGG3OF)
- Leadership and Peer Support (GPP3OF *NEW 2025-2026)
- Grade 12
- Contemporary Indigenous Issues and Perspectives in a Global Context (NDW4MF)
